Lake Shenandoah -
Massanetta Springs Road (Rt.687)

A 36 acre impoundment owned by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The lake is located in Rockingham County near the City of Harrisonburg. Lake Shenandoah lies a few miles east of Harrisonburg in Rockingham County. To get to the lake, take Rt. 33 east out of Harrisonburg, then go south on Rt. 687 to the lake.

Just outside the Mill enjoy fishing at Silver Lake a shallow, spring fed, 10-acre lake stocked with trout; largemouth bass, sunfish, and carp. A trout license is required to fish in these waters from October 1 through June 15. There are no facilities, but parking and bank access are ample. Amazing variety of flora and fauna exist and you will find rare migratory birds, fishing bald eagles and osprey to resident mute swans, duck and geese.

Shenandoah River Public Access

Port Republic Launch:
Take Port Republic Rd south, Turn left at US-340 N/SE side HWY 8.2 mi., Turn left at Island Ford Rd/ Rt. 649 go .4 mi. ramp on left.

Elkton Boat Launch:
Take Route 33 East to Elkton. Turn left at “Elkton Business District”. Just past the bridge over the river, turn right at “Boat Landing” sign.

Island Ford Launch:
From Island Ford Rt. 340, turn West on Rt 649, then Left on Rt. 642, ramp will be on the right .

Shenandoah River Park / Dam:
From I-81 South, take exit 300 onto I-66 East. From I-66, take exit 6. Turn right off ramp onto 340 S.. Follow 340 South through Front Royal, then drive 8 mi. to park's entrance on the right.

The Deerfield Portion of the North River Ranger District is located in the scenic ridge and valley province of northwestern Virginia's Allegheny Mountains. There are 161,000 acres in this portion. The Dry River Portion of this District includes portions of Virginia and West Virginia as it straddles the scenic Shenandoah Mountain. This portion covers nearly 230,000 acres of forest land.

Hunting & fishing licenses are required. This district features varied and abundant wildlife populations of turkey, grouse, black bear, squirrel, and of course, white-tail deer.
